This reroofing
project included 417 lineal feet of Situra Redline 40 Expansion
Joint. The consultant specified Redline 40 because due to the
complexity of the joint design and the need to complete this
project quickly over continuously occupied space. In addition,
drainage could also be improved by using the flat profile of
Redline at the expansion joints in lieu of the old raised curbs
which blocked water flow to the roof edge and to drains.
The Redline 40 joint system was fabricated to provide a custom-fit
and watertight joint. It was installed in one monolithic
piece saving the roofer time and completely eliminated the need for
field splices. The installation of the joint took less than
three hours from start to finish.
Redline is designed for flat profile installation on built-up
roofing and modified asphalt applications where the fleece
lined flaps of the joint are set in hot asphalt (Type III or
IV). After the installation of the roofing base ply felt the
Redline is centered over the expansion joint location. The
base ply felt is cut directly over the centerline of the joint
and the gap is filled with compressible insulation. The Redline
joint is set in a mopping of hot asphalt and then stripped
in with the flashing plies of roofing felt.
After the strip-in procedure the Redline may either be left
with the center gland exposed or it may be covered with a modified
cap sheet as on this project. The owner, consultant and roofer
are looking forward to many years of watertight performance
from the Redline 40 Expansion Joint System used on this project
